The size includes three elements: the width, height, and diameter (in inches). Combined, these form the tyre size — for example: 315/70R22.5. The “315” stands for the tyre’s width, “70” for the height, and “22.5” for the rim size in inches.

What is a load and speed index?

Behind the tyre size, you’ll often find the load or speed index. These indicate the maximum weight the tyre can carry and the maximum speed it can safely drive at. You can also find these codes on the side of the tyre. For example: 315/70R22.5 156/150L. The bold part refers to the load and speed index. The numbers indicate the maximum load, and the letter refers to the speed rating. In this case, the tyre supports up to 4,000 kg and a top speed of 120 km/h.

What is the ideal tyre pressure for truck tyres?
