Truck steering gearbox

The steering gearbox converts the movement of the steering wheel into movement of the truck’s wheels. This allows the driver to steer and manoeuvre the vehicle in a controlled manner.

A faulty steering gearbox can cause excessive play in the steering wheel, heavy steering, leakage of power steering fluid, or unusual noises while steering. In that case, inspection or replacement is recommended.

A steering gearbox consists of gears, bearings, seals, a steering shaft, and in hydraulic systems also a power steering pump. Together, these components ensure smooth and precise steering.

Hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic steering gearboxes are available for trucks. The correct type depends on the truck’s brand, model, and year of manufacture.
