AdBlue Systems for Trucks

A truck's AdBlue system is part of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and helps reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The system works together with the SCR catalytic converter and consists of various components that ensure AdBlue is stored, transported, dosed and injected into the exhaust system.

At BAS Parts & Tyres, you can find various components for AdBlue systems for different truck makes and models. Search by vehicle details, part number or OEM number and find a suitable component for your truck's AdBlue and SCR system.

What is an AdBlue system on a truck?

An AdBlue system is an emissions system that uses AdBlue in combination with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). AdBlue is a fluid that is injected into the exhaust gas flow. During the SCR process, harmful nitrogen oxides are converted mainly into nitrogen and water vapour.

The AdBlue system is electronically controlled and works together with various sensors and components to adjust the amount of AdBlue to the truck's operating conditions.

How does an AdBlue system work?

AdBlue is stored in a separate AdBlue tank. From this tank, the fluid is transported by the AdBlue pump through lines to the dosing system. The AdBlue injector then injects a precisely metered amount of AdBlue into the exhaust gas flow.

A chemical reaction then takes place in the SCR catalytic converter, reducing the amount of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases. Sensors in the exhaust system monitor the process and transmit information to the truck's control unit.

What components does an AdBlue system consist of?

An AdBlue system consists of various components that work together to store, supply, dose and monitor AdBlue. The exact configuration varies depending on the truck, engine type and emissions standard.

AdBlue tank

The AdBlue tank stores AdBlue separately from the diesel fuel. Depending on the configuration, additional components such as sensors and heating elements may be located in or around the tank.

AdBlue pump

The AdBlue pump transports the fluid from the tank to the dosing system and provides the required pressure. A faulty pump can cause insufficient or no AdBlue to reach the injector.

AdBlue lines

AdBlue lines connect the various components of the system. Many versions are equipped with heating, as AdBlue can freeze at low temperatures. Damaged or leaking lines can interfere with the operation of the system.

AdBlue injector

The AdBlue injector meters and injects AdBlue into the exhaust gas flow. Contamination, crystallisation or a fault in the injector can affect the spray pattern and the amount of AdBlue injected.

NOx sensors

NOx sensors measure the amount of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases. These measurements are used to monitor the operation of the emissions system and support AdBlue dosing.

How can you recognise a fault in the AdBlue system?

A fault in the AdBlue system can have various causes. Problems may be caused by a faulty pump or injector, leaking lines, damaged sensors, electrical faults or crystallisation. A problem is often indicated by a warning or fault message on the dashboard.

Common symptoms of AdBlue problems

Possible symptoms include an AdBlue or emissions warning, fault codes, abnormal AdBlue consumption, insufficient pressure in the system or problems with NOx reduction. Because several components can cause similar symptoms, a correct diagnosis is important before replacing parts.

Crystallisation in the AdBlue system

When AdBlue dries, white crystals can remain. These deposits may be visible around lines, connections, the pump or the injector. Excessive crystallisation can affect flow and dosing and may indicate a leak or another problem in the system.

Which AdBlue components fit my truck?

Components of AdBlue systems are often vehicle-specific. The correct version depends on factors such as the make and model of the truck, the engine type, the emissions standard and the configuration of the SCR system. Always check that the component is suitable for the vehicle in question.

Search for AdBlue parts by OEM or part number

The OEM or part number of the existing component can help you quickly find a suitable replacement. Also compare the connections, technical specifications and vehicle details to determine whether the component is suitable for your truck.
