EGR Valve truck

An EGR valve recirculates part of the exhaust gases back into the engine to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. The valve works together with components such as the exhaust manifold, the turbo and the particulate filter to keep the engine running efficiently and cleanly.

Common symptoms of a defective EGR valve include loss of power, irregular idling, smoke development, higher fuel consumption or an illuminated engine warning light. Components such as injectors and the turbo may also be put under additional strain.

In diesel-powered truck engines, soot and carbon deposits build up in the EGR valve over time due to the circulation of exhaust gases. This can also affect the intake system, the intercooler and the exhaust manifold.

EGR valves are available for various truck brands such as DAF, Volvo, Scania, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault Trucks and Iveco, suitable for different engines and emission systems.

An EGR valve should be replaced when it becomes defective or is severely contaminated and cleaning is no longer sufficient. This helps prevent further problems with components such as the turbo, injectors and the truck’s exhaust system.
