Parking Coolers for Trucks

A parking cooler, also known as a parking air conditioner, ensures that the cabin of a truck remains comfortably cool without the engine needing to idle. This results in significant fuel savings, as running the engine for cooling over long periods is no longer necessary. At the same time, harmful emissions are reduced, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way of working.

In addition, a parking air conditioner has a major impact on the well-being of the driver. During rest periods and overnight stays, a constant and pleasant temperature ensures better sleep. This means drivers wake up more rested, stay more alert while driving, and experience less fatigue. This not only improves comfort but also enhances road safety.

For which brands is a truck parking air conditioner suitable?

Is a parking air conditioner good for the environment?

It is no secret that a truck with a diesel engine is harmful to the environment. Manufacturers are continuously working to reduce emissions from 7 to 16 liter engines. They are certainly succeeding with the latest Euro 6 vehicles. However, even these trucks still emit CO2 and nitrogen. Unfortunately, trucks idling on parking lots are still a common sight during the summer months. Drivers are often forced to keep the engine running to maintain a comfortable temperature in the cabin during their rest.

With a parking air conditioner, the driver can rest in a pleasantly cooled cabin without leaving the engine running. A Euro 5 Volvo FH produces 1.2 grams of CO2 per liter of diesel. When idling, the engine consumes approximately 1.5 liters per hour and a night’s rest lasts 8 hours. This results in 14.4 grams of unnecessary CO2 emissions in one night. On a yearly basis (5 months, 22 days per month), this amounts to 1.58 kg of CO2.

Easy installation without modifications to your cabin

A parking air conditioner is easy to install on your cabin and does not require major modifications. With the right mounting kit, which you can select during ordering based on your make and model, the unit fits perfectly on the roof hatch of your truck. Installation can be done by yourself or by an installer and typically takes no more than 3 hours. Please note that in some cases, accessories such as spoilers, beacons, or air horns may need to be repositioned to enable installation.

Does a parking air conditioner save fuel costs?

In addition to the environmental aspect, it is of course also important what a parking air conditioner costs and what it can deliver.

The annual savings are significant due to avoiding unnecessary diesel consumption. As mentioned earlier, an idling truck consumes approximately 1.5 liters per hour. With a fuel price of €1.40 per liter, a parking air conditioner saves approximately €1,848 per truck per year.*

Is the weight of a parking cooler important?

The weight your cabin and roof can support varies by model. The load capacity of your roof is important when installing a parking air conditioner on your cabin. In general, parking air conditioners are very lightweight. For example, the VIESA Kompressor 3 weighs only 14 kg. Made of polypropylene, it is the lightest and most compact parking air conditioner on the market.

What happens to the battery when using a parking air conditioner for a long time?

The duration a parking air conditioner can operate largely depends on the age of your battery. Under normal conditions, you can use a parking air conditioner for approximately 6–8 hours continuously. VIESA parking air conditioners are always equipped with undervoltage protection, ensuring that your vehicle can still be started.
